RBMA NYC 2013: A Look Inside Our Building
A visual peek at the Academy's interior.
Welcome to our home. The New York edition of the Academy is located in the Monahan Express Company Building on 18th Street in Manhattan. Architect Jeffrey Inaba refashioned four floors (including the ground floor and basement) into nine recording studios of various sizes, an auditorium, a lounge, offices and the RBMA Radio studio.
One of Inaba’s goals was to create a conversation between the Academy space and New York City itself. “We want the first impression to be super clear: this is different from a store, gallery or café,” he says. “When viewed from the street, people will see that this is a unique kind of social space. The walls are organized so passersby and guests can look across the ground floor and get a glimpse of the activities taking place inside.” Check some pics below courtesy Greg Irikura.
