Ravergeek.com’s vintage rave zine collection is an invaluable documentation of the US dance music scene in the ’90s. What’s perhaps most fascinating, though, is the concerns back then look mighty similar to the ones still being talked about today: drugs, artists “selling out” and newcomers to dance music ruining it for “the heads.”
But despite the bits of negativity here and there, positivity is the most obvious recurring theme. Like their brethren in the UK, the early ravers truly felt like it was the dawn of something incredibly important. The titles of some of these publications lay it out plainly: We Are The Future, Ours, Activated, Stellar Awareness.
