Gallery: Eddie Palmieri’s Harlem River Drive Revisited
Photos from a festive day with the Latin music legend at Marcus Garvey Park
Released in 1971, Harlem River Drive saw Eddie Palmieri marrying Latin, soul, funk and jazz with socially conscious tales of the inner city. Following on from recording sessions earlier this year, Palmieri and his band performed a free outdoor concert in Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park, bringing the album back to life, 45 years later. Palmieri’s message still resonates today – as was evident in the generation-spanning makeup of the crowd and the city of New York’s decision to officially declare this day Eddie Palmieri’s Harlem River Drive Day.
