The Ecstatic World of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda celebrates the music and spirit of a true original, first with a program of music inspired by ceremonies Coltrane would hold at her Sai Anantam Ashram, followed by a concert led by her son Ravi Coltrane, with an all-star band playing music from throughout Alice’s career. Solange: An Ode To presents a multimedia performance from the galvanizing R&B artist in the Guggenheim Museum’s iconic rotunda space, for an interdisciplinary piece meditating on themes from her A Seat at the Table through movement and new arrangements. Piano Nights: Gucci Mane and Zaytoven brings together two of hip-hop’s leading lights for a throwback piano bar show - voice and piano only, showcasing the next step in the evolution of these influential artists’ careers.

Public lectures at the festival will include conversations with experimental music pioneer Alvin Lucier, new jack swing mastermind Teddy Riley (paired with a party featuring iconic DJs of the era like Brucie B and Kid Capri) and Werner Herzog, who will discuss the role of music in his films at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Fluxo: Funk Proibidão takes Brazil’s vital bass music movement to New York via the US debuts of MC Bin Laden and MC Carol, and Gqom: Durban → NYC celebrates the South African city’s latest genre innovation and dance craze with DJ Lag and Rudeboyz. NYC artists are highlighted in a massive Sacred Bones 10 Year Anniversary party, gathering the eclectic label’s roster of artists (including Jenny Hval, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler, Blanck Mass and more); A Bed-Stuy Function, bringing together NYC’s most inclusive (and innovative) dance music via Juliana Huxtable and the Fake Accent and KUNQ crews; and a star-studded tribute to Patrick Adams, the Harlem-born living legend of disco, soul and boogie performing hits from throughout his illustrious career as songwriter, arranger and producer.

The festival also includes a ten-hour ambient and transcendent music experience featuring sets from Laraaji, Malcolm Cecil, Julianna Barwick and more; legendary Brazilian singer Elza Soares; Detroit house hero Moodymann playing a 100% Prince tribute set; and a celebration of America’s queer dance music underground, with San Francisco’s Honey Soundsystem, Pittsburgh’s Honcho and other crews from throughout the US coming together for a massive warehouse party.
